
Molly Michalak had 16 kills, but the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team lost at Butler University, 3-0, on Wednesday at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Michalak finished the match with 16 kills, six errors and a .256 attack percentage. Taylor Grinley had 19 assists and eight digs. Sarah Mitchell had a team-high 10 digs.
Melody Davidson posted a match-best 24 digs for Butler (6-4). She had one error in 33 attempts for a .697 attack percentage.
Back-to-back kills by Michalak in the first set tied the score at 14-14, but the Bulldogs answered with a 7-2 run to build a five-point advantage on their way to a 25-21 win. A kill by Michalak and a Butler error staked the Colonels (2-8) to an early 6-2 lead in the second set. Two more kills from Michalak pushed EKU out in front 16-11. However, the Bulldogs put together a 12-1 run and took the second set 25-19.
Eastern Kentucky scored the first point in the third set, but Butler scored the next five and cruised to a 25-17 win.
The Colonels will stay on the road for the Southern Miss Classic II this weekend in Hattiesburg. EKU will play host Southern Mississippi on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and take on Chattanooga at 6 p.m. on Friday.
