
Eastern Kentucky University’s volleyball team lost to host Loyola and Xavier by 3-0 scores on the first day of the Loyola Tournament on Friday in Chicago.
Loyola won by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-11. Anna Purichia led EKU with seven kills. Freshman Miya Carmichael totaled a team-best 12 assists.
Addie Barnes led the Ramblers with 13 kills. She made just two errors for a .500 attack percentage. Loyola hit .423 for the match while limiting the Colonels to .045.
Xavier knocked off Eastern Kentucky 25-13, 25-17 and 25-16. Purichia and Molly Michalak had nine kills each. Purichia posted a .263 attack percentage. Taylor Grinley contributed 18 assists and Sydney Schoen had 12 digs.
MaryAnn O’Toole had a match-best 13 kills to go along with a .345 hitting percentage for Xavier (3-2). The Musketeers out-blocked EKU 10-1.
The Colonels will close out play at the Loyola Tournament on Saturday against Southern Illinois Edwardsville at 1 p.m.
