The fourth-ranked Murray State rifle team finished second at the inaugural Kentucky Long Rifle Match Saturday in Lexington, posting a 4685. Kentucky won the match with a 4718, while Morehead State was third with a 4659.
Senior Barbara Schläpfer led the Racers in all three phases of the match with a season-high 588 in smallbore, a career-high 597 in air rifle and a career-high tying aggregate score of 1185. MacKenzie Martin was just one shot off of Schläpfer in smallbore with a 587, while Shelby Huber was the third counter for Murray State at 578. Dana Buesseler also had a good day in smallbore for the Racers, as she shot a season-high 581. In air rifle, Huber shot a season-best 592, followed by Buesseler at 591 and Alathea Sellars at 590.
Next week, the Racers face arguably their toughest road trip of the season when travel to No. 2 West Virginia.
