The Murray State rifle team used a team-high aggregate of 1175 from Ivan Roe and Barbara Schläpfer to finish their day at the 2018 Ole Miss Open at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center in Oxford, Mississippi Friday with a total team score of 4692. The Racers shot a 2326 as a team in smallbore and tied a season-high in air rifle at 2366.
“Kenzie did a good job in smallbore,” said head coach Alan Lollar after the match. “Barbara had a good overall match, while Bobby had a nice air rifle and Ivan was solid on both guns. Everyone worked hard and I liked the effort on the road, but we just have to become more consistent.”
MacKenzie Martin led the Racers in smallbore with a 587, while Schläpfer and Roe followed closely behind at 583 and 582, respectively. Both Alathea Sellars and Robert Broadstreet shot a 574 on the gun, while Meike Drewell rounded out the Racers on smallbore at 566.
In air rifle, Broadstreet posted the day’s best score for Murray State at 594, while Roe and Schläpfer were once again close behind at 593 and 592, respectively. Drewell was next for MSU at 588 with Sellars and Martin finishing out the competition for Murray State at 587 and 586.
Murray State now must now wait to find out where it finished in the 12-team field, as the event, which began last Saturday, runs through Sunday.
The Racers will return home Sunday for the back end of their double-duty weekend when they host the Black Knights of Army West Point at Pat Spurgin Rifle Range.
