No. 40 Louisville MTEN Secures Victory Over No. 58 Clemson in ACC Road Match

The No. 40-ranked University of Louisville men’s tennis team triumphed over No. 58 Clemson with a 4-2 win on Sunday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. The victory marked the Cardinals’ final Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) road match of the regular season.

With this win, the Cardinals extend their overall record to 14-9 and achieve their fourth consecutive league victory, bringing their conference record to 5-6.

Louisville is set to wrap up the regular season at home, hosting Notre Dame at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center for an ACC Network televised match on Thursday at 5 p.m. The team will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday with a 3 p.m. matchup against Middle Tennessee State.

In Sunday’s match, the Cardinals started strong with doubles wins on courts two and three. David Mizrahi and Alex Wesbrooks defeated Jorge Plans Gonzalez 6-2 at No. 2, while Sergio Hernandez and Natan Rodrigues secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Matt Pitts and Tim Pitts.

In singles, 50th-ranked Salle overcame Spencer Whitaker in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 at the three-spot, extending the Cardinals’ lead to 2-0. The Tigers responded with a win on court one, but Louisville bounced back with Andre’ Steinbach’s 6-0, 6-4 victory over Tim Pitts at No. 6, making the score 3-1.

Clemson added another win before Mizrahi sealed the Cardinals’ victory with a 7-6 (6), 6-3 decision against Stinchcomb on court five.

UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva praised the team’s performance, saying, “We battled through some tough conditions with a lot of wind, but the guys handled things very well and came out with the win.” He added, “We are excited to be home for the last two matches of the regular season.”
