UK Softball Reed’s RBI Caps Rethlake’s Gem as Kentucky Outlasts EKU on Road

Katie Reed drove in the only run of the game on Wednesday night in a 1-0 win over Eastern Kentucky, capping off a gem in the circle from pitcher Erin Rethlake to give Kentucky its 25th win of the season.

Kentucky’s bats struggled all night, as the Wildcats were able to generate base runners thanks to five hits and eight walks, but left 11 runners on base and five of those in scoring positon.

Luckily for the Wildcats, Erin Rethlake was on her A-game, as she threw a complete-game shutout in 109 pitches, only allowing two hits in seven inning and only walking two compared to eight strikeouts.

UK will step back into conference play on Friday night for the first game of a three-game series at No. 9 Texas A&M. The game will be at 7:30 p.m. ET and shown live on the SEC Network, ESPN3 and the ESPN app.

Kentucky turned an amazing double play in the infield to end the game with EKU possessing the tying run on second in scoring position and the winning run on first.

Erin Rethlake was the key player in the game, as she went the distance in the circle without allowing a run.

The only run in the game came in the top of the second inning as Katie Reed roped a one-out single to left to score Mallory Peyton from third. Peyton was pinch running for Rachael Metzger, who led off the inning with a walk.
