UK WGOLF Finishes 15th at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate Tournament

The University of Kentucky women’s golf team recently wrapped up their play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Wednesday, finishing the event at Long Cove Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with a 42-over-par 894 for 15th place.

In the final round, the Wildcats recorded their lowest round of the tournament yet, with a 10-over-par 294. Head coach Golda Borst commented on the team’s performance, acknowledging the challenges they faced in a competitive field but expressing a desire to improve their game and focus on fundamentals.

The tournament was won by No. 6 LSU, with a score of 858 (+6), followed by host No. 4 South Carolina in second place at 862 (+10) and No. 15 Auburn in third place at 866 (+14).

Jensen Castle was a standout performer for the Wildcats, finishing inside the top 10 for the fourth consecutive time. The senior golfer produced scores of 72, 70, and 72 for a 1-over-par 214 and a share of eighth place. Castle’s tournament was highlighted by two chip-ins in the second round, helping her go -5 through her last nine holes.

Laney Frye also impressed with a 1-over-par 71 in the final round, tying with Castle. Frye scored a total of 11-over-par 224 for the tournament, tying for 53rd place. Marissa Wenzler, Ivy Shepherd, and Maria Villanueva completed the team scorecard.

The Wildcats finished the tournament with 23 birdies as a team, led by eight birdies from Castle. Frye, on the other hand, managed to achieve red figures on the par-3s, being one of just 13 players in the field to do so.

Kentucky will continue their spring season at the Florida State Match-Up at Seminole Legacy in Tallahassee, Florida, from March 17-19. Despite the challenges they faced at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, the Wildcats will look to improve their game and put forth a strong showing in their upcoming matches.
