The University of Louisville women’s tennis team had a successful match on Saturday, as they defeated Bellarmine 4-1 in the second match of the doubleheader. The Cardinals started off behind, as they dropped the doubles point to give Bellarmine a 1-0 lead heading into the singles competition.
Despite being down, the Cardinals quickly turned things around, as Maria Campos got her second win of the day to score the first point for Louisville. Campos beat Hanley Riner 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Tyra Richardson followed suit, scoring the next point for the Cardinals when she dispatched Channing Varnum 6-2, 6-1, giving Louisville a 2-1 lead. Cici Xin also contributed to the Cardinals’ success, scoring a win with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Shu Grosso at No. 5 singles. Rhea Verma sealed the deal for Louisville, clinching the match with a win at No. 2, going 6-3, 6-3 over Lailaa Bashir.
With this win, the Cardinals improved their record and will now look ahead to their next match. The team will be idle until January 28th when they host Ball State at noon and Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. This will be an opportunity for the Cardinals to continue their winning streak and showcase their skills on their home court.
