The University of Louisville men’s tennis team had a successful start to the season, defeating Bellarmine 6-1 Wednesday evening at the Bass-Rudd Center. This win brings the Cardinals record to 2-0, following a 7-0 victory in their season-opening match against UIC earlier in the day.

The Cardinals dominated in doubles play in both matches, winning the doubles point in both contests and going on to win 10 of the 12 singles matches in straight sets. Fabien Salle, Etienne Donnet, Sergio Hernandez and Andre’ Steinbach each contributed to the team’s success with two singles victories and at least one doubles win on the day.

In the season opener against UIC, Louisville took the doubles point with wins on courts 2 and 3 and swept singles in straight sets. This momentum carried over to the second match of the day, where the Cardinals tallied four straight set singles wins en route to a 6-1 final.

The Cardinals will return to action on Sunday, when they play host to No. 24 Northwestern at 12 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. matchup with Eastern Kentucky. With the team’s strong start to the season, the Cardinals look to continue their winning ways in the upcoming games.
