Kentucky State University senior women’s basketball player Victoria Blankenship has been honored by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for her work in leading the Thorobreds to a perfect 2-0 week, the league announced today (December 3, 2019).
The senior transfer forward was named SIAC Newcomer of the Week.
“We are extremely proud of Vic,” said Kentucky State University head coach Terrance Slater. “She has been working hard and she has finally adjusted to our style of play. The scary thing is she has not even reached her full potential but we are super proud of her.”
Blankenship (Fayetteville, N.C.) averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds as Kentucky State posted comeback victories over Illinois Springfield and SIAC newcomer Savannah State. In the non-conference win over the Prairie Stars, the forward scored 19 of her game-high 23 points in the second half.
She added 13 points and seven rebounds as the Thorobreds opened conference player with the 73-69 win over the Tigers.
Kentucky State (4-3 overall, 1-0 SIAC) travels to Louisville, Ky. 1 p.m. Saturday for a non-conference game with Bellarmine.
