With 18 holes remaining at the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Championship, Eastern Kentucky University’s Diana McDonald is in second place, just two shots off the lead.  The Colonels are in second as a team at Hampton Cove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama.

EKU improved by 13 shots over its first round score to card an even-par round of 288.  However, Jacksonville State improved by nine strokes and has turned a 9-shot lead into a 14-stroke advantage.  Eastern has a two-round total of 589.  JSU followed its first round 4-over 292 with a 283 (-5) and has a total of 575.

McDonald carded a 4-under round of 68 on Monday, the best by anyone in the tournament through the first two rounds.  She moved from a tie for ninth into second place by herself with a two-round total of 142 (-2).  She is two shots behind Ana Perez Altuna (140) of Jacksonville State.

McDonald had five birdies on the first nine holes and made the turn at 4-under.  She got to 5-under after a two on the par-3 No. 11 hole.

None of the other six teams shot better than 303 on Monday.  Austin Peay (607) moved to third.  Murray State (608) and Belmont (608) are tied for fourth.  Morehead State (619) is sixth and Tennessee Tech (621) is seventh.  Eastern Illinois (670) rounds out the field in eighth.

The three-day, 54-hole event is being contested on the par 72, 6,025-yard Highlands Course at Hampton Cove.

Ragnhildur Kristinsdottir shot a second round score of 1-under 71 and has a 36-hole total of 147 (+3).  She is in seventh place.  An eagle on the par-5 No. 9 hole allowed Kristinsdottir to drop to 1-under for the round.  She had two birdies and two bogies on the back nine. 

Vilma Efraimsson improved by four strokes from the first round for an even-par 72.  She is tied for eighth at 148 (+4)

Elisa Orduna Shackleton (153) is tied for 15th and Bailey Hubbard (155) is tied for 21st.

The Colonels will begin teeing off for final round on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. ET.
